USW Signs Agreement With Mondragon To Create Worker-Owned Cooperatives | Daily Labor Report

Contending that North America needs a “much different economic model” than the current “Wall Street model,” United Steelworkers President Leo Gerard Oct. 27 announced his union has reached a “framework agreement” with Mondragon Internacional to collaborate in an effort to create worker cooperatives in the manufacturing sector in the United States and Canada. Addressing reporters on a teleconference call, Gerard said that the union and Mondragon, which is the largest worker-owned cooperative in the world, will work to establish manufacturing cooperatives that adapt collective bargaining principles to the Mondragon worker ownership model of “one worker, one vote.”
